I have been a Registered Nurse for 35 years and a Family Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist for the past 7 years of those 35 years. I own my own clinic in Jennings, LA and it is designated as a Rural Health Clinic. We see many different types of patients, but diabetes and hypertension are probably the most common diseases. We do treat Newborn to 100+ and make house calls on our 80 - 90 year old patients if needed. We focus on prevention and teach as much as possible to educate the patients and their families. I have presented free diabetic education classes for the last five years every four months in my clinic. Two years ago, I started offering the same program in Crowley, LA a town 20 miles away. I am being recruited to teach a class in Lake Charles, LA and Baton Rouge, LA which may make me over extending my time in doing all the things I want to do. Because of this, I am trying to become certified as a diabetic educator and get my clinic credentialed as a diabetic clinic also.
