I have been a Registered Nurse for 36 years and a Family Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist for the past 7 years of those 35 years. I recently owned my own clinic in Jennings, LA and it was designated as a Rural Health Clinic. We saw many different types of patients, but diabetes and hypertension were probably the most common diseases. As Nurse Practitioners, we do treat Newborn to 100+ and make house calls on our 80 - 90 year old patients if needed. We focus on prevention and teach as much as possible to educate the patients and their families. I have presented free diabetic education classes for the last five years every four months in my clinic. Two years ago, I started offering the same program in Crowley, LA a town 20 miles away.
